JENKIN STREET

A whole-home remodelling.

Sometimes one job leads to another, and it’s certainly the case with this character home.

The first project we undertook internally was to convert the existing open mezzanine balcony into an enclosed room to add an extra bedroom while also adding two Velux windows to the vaulted timber-lined ceiling in the living area. The new bedroom was decorated in light colours to create a light and airy lofty room, fitted out with custom cabinetry to maximise storage in the roof-shaped room.

The client also wished to update and remodel their kitchen, creating a hidden scullery behind the kitchen to hide their appliances and double as a WIP. They opted for striking black subway tiles to the full-height splashback and the same tiles to the kitchen island base, which work really well with the solid, handmade Jarrah slab with natural edge finish.

Next, we remodelled the master bedroom to add an ensuite bathroom with white penny round floor tiles, walk-in shower, custom vanity and an inbuilt mirrored cabinet. We also modernised the main bathroom with white modern cabinetry and tiles. At the same time, Stuart hand-built an office using form ply boards to the client’s specification.

We also built a one-bedroom self-contained granny flat with a living area, bedroom and ensuite. With a dark texture-coat finish - with timber windows & doors and pergola - the new granny flat kept in line with the home’s look and feel.

Not long later, we were back, this time building a brand new alfresco. A seamless extension of the main home and outdoor living area, thanks to large double sliding doors, the alfresco was fully protected from the elements for year-round use.

As part of this project, the client asked us to repurpose their old original Jarrah kitchen from a previous home in this area, which we lovingly restored and remade to fit the space. They also wanted a custom outdoor TV cabinet built by Stu and Jarrah decking added to tie in with the Jarrah decking wrapping around the house.

Our latest addition to this never-ending project was the laundry's remodelling, which included installing black cabinetry and updating the tiling.
